Commons presents a takeover by artist and illustrator Mirren Kessling of her new series of intricately detailed drawings. The series of imaginary devotional objects bring together influences from historical metalwork to pshyedlic op-art and are designed to hypnotise, draw in and slow down the viewer into a state of calm meditation.
Commons' first exhibit was a takeover by visual artist and illustrator Mirren Kessling, showcasing her new series of intricately detailed, black and white drawings. This series of imaginary devotional objects merges influences from historical metalwork to psychedelic op-art. Designed to hypnotize and draw in the viewer, Kessling's work aims to slow down one's perception and guide viewers into a state of calm meditation.
Mirren Kessling is an artist and illustrator based in London. Her work centres intricately detailed black and white drawings, informed by her research into metalwork, textiles, devotional objects and practices, walking, archetypes and herbalism. Her contemporary re-imaginings of objects exist as works on paper, prints, garments and design collaborations.
She graduated with a BFA from the Ruskin School of Art at the University of Oxford. Her work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions at Modern Art Oxford, Cube Gallery London, Commons and group exhibitions at The Museum for the History of Science, Ashmolean Musuem, Modern Art Oxford, Modern Artists Gallery, York Art Gallery and Jelly. Selected for prizes including CVAN South East's Platform, Ambit Artist Award and Aesthetica Art Prize.
She is a sacred celebrant and the co-founder of Just Druid, a collective which runs nature based events, monthly meditation events around London's green spaces and designs limited edition runs of clothes (path-wear).
